UK government is openly funding solar geoengineering; make your voice heard By Rhoda Wilson on April 27, 2025 • ( 45 Comments )

The UK government is funding £50 million for solar geoengineering field trials through the Advanced Research and Invention Agency (“ARIA”).

It is claimed that ARIA will support controlled outdoor experiments.  But solar geoengineering operations such as Stratospheric Aerosol Injection, or chemtrails, have been happening for years.

AIRA said as well as outdoor experiments, it will be gauging public attitudes to geoengineering.  Is this the real reason for publicising solar geoengineering experiments?  If so, let them know what your attitude towards their experiments is.

The UK government has committed £50 million to fund controversial solar geoengineering field trials, positioning Britain as a leading authority in this experimental climate intervention.

ARIA will use the money to support controlled outdoor experiments of multiple Solar Radiation Modification techniques, including Stratospheric Aerosol Injection (“SAI”) and Marine Cloud Brightening.

Prof Mark Symes, the programme director for ARIA, said there would be “small controlled outdoor experiments on particular approaches.”

“We will be announcing who we have given funding to in a few weeks and when we do so, we will be making clear when any outdoor experiments might be taking place,” he said.

As well as outdoor experiments, Aria will also be funding new modelling studies, indoor tests, climate monitoring and gauging public attitudes to geoengineering, The Telegraph said.

This is simply an update on an announcement made by ARIA in September 2024.  At the time, ARIA said it was investing £57 million to fund small-scale outdoor geoengineering experiments to artificially cool the planet.  Proposals for those wanting funding from ARIA closed in early December, with successful projects being announced before July 2025.

The £50 million for geoengineering experiments is a fraction of ARIA’s budget.  The agency has a £800 million budget from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.  However, its spending and operations remain secretive, with an exemption from complying with Freedom of Information requests.

ARIA’s leadership, including CEO Ilan Gur and Chair Matt Clifford, have significant power with little accountability and the agency’s projects, such as solar geoengineering and brain-interfacing neurotechnologies, pose significant risks to the public and the planet.

ARIA’s secrecy and lack of transparency, combined with its high-stakes experiments, could lead to catastrophic consequences.  The agency’s true motives and partnerships remain unclear, sparking concerns about unaccountable governance and potential mismanagement of public funds.

Announcing the £50 million to fund solar geoengineering experiments isn’t ARIA satisfying a sudden urge to be transparent about their activities or how they are using public funds.  This is a test to determine whether the public still possesses critical thinking skills.  The Great Climate Con puts it succinctly:

In addition to that, SAI from aeroplanes has already been happening.  Colloquially known as chemtrails, the spraying of chemicals from aeroplanes has been happening in UK skies for more than a decade.

In 2013, Chemtrails Project UK published a ‘Directive to Ban Stratospheric Aerosol Geoengineering and Aerial Aerosol Spraying in the United Kingdom’.  One section of the Directive lists the evidence available at that time that showed large-scale aerial spraying activities had already started.

The Directive also has a section: ‘We’ve been sprayed before’. Meaning that, in 2013, chemtrails were not a recent or unknown phenomenon.

In 2014, in response to a request made under the Freedom of Information Act, the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (“DECC”) denied involvement with chemtrail operations ongoing at the time:

Why, if SAI has been happening for years, is the UK now admitting to funding small solar geoengineering outdoor experiments?

Chemtrails Project UK’s Directive noted:

Is it just a coincidence that, as we are told, ARIA is funding “small controlled outdoor experiments” or, put another way, “small-scale scientific research studies”? Is the funding of “outdoor experiments” a cover story?  Or perhaps it is simply a ruse to gauge public attitudes to geoengineering.

Don’t let them get away with it. Take this opportunity to let them know that your attitude to geoengineering is that you strongly object.  On Chemtrails Project UK’s website is a ‘Take Action’ tab; one option is to send the Directive to your Member of Parliament, another is to sign a petition (although the website doesn’t appear to have been active since 2021 so it’s not certain if any action will be taken with this petition).  You can also sign a petition to the UK Parliament titled ‘Make all forms of ‘geo-engineering’ affecting the environment illegal’ HERE.
