WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — The Department of Homeland Security has called on Americans to “pray without ceasing,” one day after a mass shooting at Minneapolis’ Annunciation Catholic Church.
“Pray without ceasing,” the Department of Homeland Security, overseen by the Trump administration, wrote in an August 28 post on X, just one day after the tragic shooting.
The quote comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, which reads, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” The passage is part of a letter from St. Paul to offer comfort to the early Christians who were being persecuted and martyred for their faith.
As LifeSiteNews reported, on August 27, a gender-confused 23-year-old man named Robert “Robin” Westman opened fire into the church early Wednesday morning, killing two children and injuring 17 other people on the scene before taking his own life.
Online videos discovered soon afterward indicate a wide range of extreme views, including a desire to kill President Donald Trump, hatred of Christianity, Jews, and religion generally, and a fascination with school shooters and a desire to terrorize children, as well as even dissatisfaction with his own “transitioning.”
While most Americans are calling for prayers for both the victims and for the American nation, some Democrats and leftists have mocked the calls for “thoughts and prayers” in the aftermath of the attack.
Leftists routinely deride “thoughts and prayers” as a substitute for action in the wake of mass shootings, largely because they are hostile to Christianity and the only actions they deem acceptable are new gun control restrictions on the general population. Conservatives note that gun control only leaves law-abiding citizens defenseless against criminals who ignore such laws, citing the fact that seven of the 10 most dangerous cities in America are Democrat-controlled.
