US President Donald Trump said on Friday he believes it is possible that a ceasefire in the Gaza conflict will be reached by next week.

Trump, at an Oval Office event celebrating a Congo-Rwanda accord, told reporters that he believes a ceasefire is close. He said he had just been talking to some of the people involved in trying to reach a ceasefire for the Israel-Hamas War.

Some 50 hostages remain in captivity after being abducted by Hamas on October 7, 2023. While the terror group originally abducted some 250 people, many were released under previous ceasefire agreements, and some were rescued by the IDF.

Hamas-run Palestinian health authorities have claimed that the war has killed tens of thousands of Gazans and decimated much of the enclave.

Trump’s announcement comes after a ceasefire agreement ended a 12-day war between Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which backs the terror groups Israel has warred against for the past two years, namely Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.

Trump promises to solve global conflicts

Trump also said on Friday that he will “get the conflict solved with North Korea.”

“I’ve had a good relationship with Kim Jong Un and get along with him, really great,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “So we’ll see what happens.”

“Somebody’s saying there’s a potential conflict, I think we’ll work it out,” Trump added. “If there is, it wouldn’t involve us.”
