An Oregon principal who reportedly celebrated the assassination of civil-rights leader Charlie Kirk last year has been sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of possessing child pornography.
Jeremy Peter Williams, 50, the former principal at Rainier Junior/ High School was given a sentence of 61 months and must also register as a sex offender for the next 15 years and serve 36 months of community custody once released from prison.
Williams originally faced 13 charges, but pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
Before his arrest in September, the principal had been previously suspended by the Rainier School District for making negative comments about Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who had been shot to death a week earlier while speaking in Utah.
The specific nature of those comments have not been publicly disclosed.
“Another one,” said Elon Musk, the owner of X, upon learning of Williams’ sentence.
The Daily News of Longview, Washington, reports: “Williams told authorities he sought communities online to make connections through writing erotic short stories featuring children, which eventually parlayed into sharing explicit images of juveniles, according to the pre-sentencing investigation report.”
“During a Feb. 4 interview with authorities, he said writing the erotic short stories made him popular and feel powerful because people online wanted only what he could provide. His writings won a few competitions, he added.
“Eventually a woman reached out online to role play and have him write similar stories for her. This woman shared an explicit image of a young girl, setting off a back-and-forth between him and others of sharing sexual images of kids.
“He even admitted sharing a video of a 6-month-old to another person online, the report states. He also said he was having difficulties at work and home, making him feel isolated and powerless, leading him to search for connection online. He added that he didn’t do anything sexual with students.”
“Williams described his parents as Christian fundamentalists, according to the pre-sentencing investigation report, and said he endured ‘religious trauma’ due to being raised to believe that if he did anything ‘bad or had bad thoughts,’ he would go to hell.”
OregonLive reports: “Cowlitz County Chief Criminal Deputy Troy Brightbill said at the time that authorities received automatic alerts from several social media sites after known sexually explicit images of children were traded by an internet address linked to Williams.
“There was no indication Williams had possessed images of students at his school, the deputy said.”
