Record-breaking heatwave continues across Northeast U.S.

A heat dome that settled over the United States on June 23, 2025, is driving record-breaking temperatures across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. More than 245 million people experienced daytime highs above 32 °C (90 °F), with 33 million facing extreme heat above 38 °C (100 °F) by June 24. Cities like New York and Philadelphia saw historic highs and record-warm nights, leading to heat advisories and health warnings across two-thirds of the states in the country.

A high-pressure heat dome system positioned over the eastern United States has led to record-breaking heat conditions across the Northeast and parts of the Mid-Atlantic beginning June 23, 2025.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued heat advisories and excessive heat warnings for multiple states as roughly 245 million people experienced temperatures at or above 32°C (90°F), and about 33 million faced temperatures at or above 38°C (100°F).
