When Muslim Network TV — a U.S.-based broadcaster with Canadian programming — opened its nightly news by sneering at the memory of slain American activist Charlie Kirk, it exposed more than contempt for conservatives. It revealed how radical media operations exploit U.S. nonprofit protections to pump out propaganda under the cover of charity.
What They Said About Kirk
On its September 17 Muslim News Canada broadcast, sharia-compliant anchor Ilya Batul opened by mocking the rare parliamentary tribute:
“Tonight, Canadian Parliament gives a rare standing ovation to far right U.S. activist Charlie Kirk, sparking criticism… I’m Ilya Batul.”
She went on to describe Kirk as a figure defined by “anti-immigration rhetoric, attacks on Muslims, unyielding support for Israel, and spreading election misinformation through his group Turning Point USA.” Even Liberal MPs, she noted, joined in the applause despite this “reputation.”
The segment concluded by framing the ovation as a betrayal of Canadian values:
“Many argue Kirk stood for everything Canada fundamentally opposes, and that applauding him means supporting hate and division.”
Why It Matters
Muslim Network TV is not simply a community channel offering diverse perspectives. It is the media arm of Sound Vision, a Chicago-based nonprofit that launched the network in 2020.
With tax-exempt status, it enjoys privileges that shield it from scrutiny and shift costs onto the public, while using that platform to attack conservatives, defend Islamist narratives, and portray political violence through grievance politics.
This is not just about one smear of Charlie Kirk. It reflects a broader pattern: outlets presenting themselves as neutral community voices while functioning as ideological weapons.
The Double Standard
The venom directed at Kirk is telling. Muslim Network TV claimed he was defined by “attacks on Muslims” and “spreading misinformation.” Yet this same outlet routinely avoids condemning Islamic violence or antisemitism and anti-Christian hatred within its own audience.
Meanwhile, Canadian MPs were shamed for applauding a Christian peaceful man murdered for his political activism — even though Parliament had only months earlier given a standing ovation to a 98-year-old Nazi SS veteran, as Batul herself reminded viewers.
The contrast is stark: in the eyes of Muslim Network TV, honoring a conservative American is unacceptable, but smearing him on air is perfectly fine.
Why Are We Tolerating This?
Charlie Kirk was assassinated in front of his wife, children, and students—people who came to engage with America and debate ideas. The greater insult is that his memory is now being publicly maligned on a platform operating under U.S. nonprofit protections. Muslim Network TV and its parent, Sound Vision, are not neutral community broadcasters. They are ideological actors, exploiting the legal shield of charity to vilify Christian conservatives and reshape public debate.
It is time to ask the hard question: why are Americans tolerating this?
