On Sunday evening, a brutal knife attack unfolded in Kerkstraat, Lommel (Belgium), leaving two people seriously injured, one with his throat slashed. The shocking incident—captured on video—shows a chaotic brawl among around 20 Afghan men, some armed with knives, chasing each other in broad daylight as bystanders scream: “Call the police, he has a knife!”
According to Acting Mayor Peter Vanderkrieken, the attackers were not local residents but Afghans who traveled to Lommel to “teach someone at the Fedasil asylum center a lesson.” The mayor confirmed:
“About twenty Afghans got into a fight with each other. A group of Afghans are not staying in Lommel, but they did come to our region to teach someone staying at Fedasil a lesson.”
The stabbing occurred around 5:30 p.m. near a bus stop, an area that locals say is frequently plagued by fights, but never to this level of violence. The street was temporarily sealed off as emergency services arrived.
Disturbing video footage shows young men, some wearing blood-stained clothing, brandishing knives in the middle of the street. Witnesses report that one man had his neck slashed. A forensic lab was called in to examine the crime scene.
The Limburg public prosecutor’s office confirmed the arrest of six suspects. Investigations into the cause of the fight and the full circumstances are still ongoing.
